Parenting

Parenting can be one of our most rewarding and at the same time most difficult roles. Because of the many challenges that come with raising a child, parenting counseling can be helpful for all parents and parents-to-be. It can be helpful if you have a child who struggles with big emotions or difficult behaviors, or a child who is going through a significant change such as a loss, moving, parents' divorce, or adjusting to a new sibling. It can be helpful if your child has ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, or other diagnoses. It can also be helpful if your child is doing ok, but you are feeling burnt out and not enjoying your parenting journey as much as you would like.

How can parenting counseling help?

It can help improve communication and understanding between you and your child, provide you with effective tools to handle meltdowns and challenging behaviors, and better understand your child and strengthen your relationship. It can help you gain practical knowledge, tools, and skills to help you get through the "terrible twos", the preschool years, middle school challenges, tweens and teens struggles, and every stage in between. If you find yourself getting frustrated with your children, yelling, threatening, punishing, or feeling like your children never listen no matter what you do, and you would like to find a more effective and less stressful way of parenting, we can help.

How do the sessions go?

Parenting counseling is often short-term and typically includes education on effective communication, child development, conflict resolution, discipline tools and strategies tailored to the family's needs, learning practical skills and techniques for parents to apply at home or for parents to teach the child, and ongoing support to problem-solve challenges as needed.
