Hello, I'm Barbara.
Barbara Johns
Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate
Supervised by Kristin King, MA, LPC-S
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and I work with parents, children, couples, and individuals of all ages who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, self-esteem, stress, and those going through significant life transitions. When it comes to children, I typically work with those with behavioral issues, poor emotional regulation, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, and difficulty adjusting to changes.
I have a passion for all things related to parenting and work to help parents and children build a strong and positive relationship so that parents can enjoy their parenting journey and their children can thrive.

I believe that in order to heal, people need to have a safe space where they can explore what may be contributing to their problems and how they can use their difficulties and personal strengths as fuel for growth. My goal is to provide you with that safe and supportive environment as well as with new tools and skills that you can take with you on your journey towards healing and growth.
I use different approaches in therapy depending on the client’s personality, circumstances, presenting problems, and goals. I believe this is helpful because people are unique and face different challenges so I can best help guide them by using a combination of several techniques.
Working with children and parents has a very special place in my heart. Through Play Therapy, children can often work through challenges and heal their wounds without even noticing because playing comes naturally to them. I also work with parents/caregivers to help foster healthy child-parent relationships and to give parents and caregivers new tools to help their children during the therapy process and beyond.
As Carl Rogers said “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination”. Whether you have been in therapy before or this is your first time, I would be most honored to work alongside you in your journey of healing and self-growth towards a good life.
Sometimes finding the right counselor is simply a matter of finding someone who has training and experience in the particular area you are looking for but sometimes finding the right fit in a counselor can be more challenging.
